 Ramdev Baba and Indian Yoga | What is the History





Today for most of us when we hear the name Patanjali , first thing that clicks in our minds is Ramdev Baba’s long networked Pan India Stores.

We will be amazed to know that Ramdev Baba himself inspired by a Yogi - who collected and compiled the knowledge from great many guru’s 2500 years ago , regarding the “science of enlightenment “ Yoga whose name is Patanjali. We don’t know much about his life but his treasures where handed down in the form of Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.

Yoga sutras are broadly classified into 4 chapters - 

  • Samadhi, 
  • sadhana, 
  • vibhooti and 
  • kaivalya pada 

respectively which deals with Aastanga Yoga [ Eight fold path].

In present times yoga is a global phenomenon for maintaining sound health. I inquired many people who are practicing Yoga about the subject they only mention Aasan , pranayam , Dhyana. These three are only some aspects of Aastanga Yoga.

To be practical we are not Yogis to be strict about the 8 fold path of yoga. We are in different roles of society i.e. business, administration, politics , teaching ,advocacy etc.

What we people need in our busy and hectic schedules is quick , easy and effective techniques to keep ourselves physically, mentally, emotionally strong .Health should be in our hands not in the of specialists/ physicians/psychologists.

To be responsible towards our bodies and minds doing one hour of Vyayam , suryanamskar, mudras and asan are a perfect combo of advice. Knowing yoga is one thing and implementing what we know in our day to day lives is altogether a different experience.

I personally practice yoga frequently of Dhirendra Brahmachari’s sukshma vyayam (48 vyayams ). This has immense healing and confidence building capacities. This helps in harmonising body ,mind and spirit bridging union among them.
